Gertrude Marie Taylor, 95, of Virginia Beach

Gertrude Marie Taylor, affectionately known as Trudy, was called home on August 11, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born in Ridgewood, New York, on October 24, 1929, and graced this world with nearly 96 years of love, devotion, and a profound impact on those around her.

Trudy’s life was a testament to the importance of faith and family, which were the cornerstones of her being. A loving wife to her late husband, Joseph Charles Taylor, she now joins him in eternal rest. Together, they built a beautiful family, which has been profoundly touched by Trudy’s unshakeable kindness and spirit.

In her professional life, Trudy worked as a secretary, bringing dedication and skill to her administrative role many years ago. Yet, her true calling was as a devoted mother and grandmother. Her children, Susan Hastain (Nick) and Stephen Taylor, learned the values of compassion and integrity through her example. Her grandchildren, Joseph, Nicholas (Alisa), Sydney, Madison, and Morgan Hastain, were blessed by her nurturing love and wisdom. Trudy cherished every moment with her family, holding these relationships close to her heart.

A longtime member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, Trudy found strength and solace in her faith, which guided her throughout her life. Her commitment to her beliefs shone brightly, inspiring those around her with its steadfastness.

Trudy is preceded in death by her parents William and Ida Rauth (nee Schubert) and her brothers Robert and Edward Rauth.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren, along with a host of additional loving family and friends who will forever carry memories of her gentle spirit and unwavering support.

A graveside service to celebrate Trudy’s remarkable life will take place on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Calverton National Cemetery, located at 210 Princeton Boulevard in Calverton, New York.

While Trudy may have departed from our midst, her lovingkindness will live on in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of faith, love, and dedication will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come.
