Bartola “Lina” Liggieri, 90, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Bartola.
She was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Carmelo ” Melo” Liggieri a devoted and loving mother to her 5 children, Concetta Weiss and Maria Liggieri-Bonesteel, Sebastiano Liggieri, Maurizio Liggieri and Bartolo Liggieri; her son-n-law, John Bonesteel and daughter-n-law, Pina Liggieri. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-children.
Lina was an extraordinary woman of unwavering love, self-sacrifice and strength. She was a native of Sicily and took a leap of faith to bring us all to America in 1972, for a better life. We lived in Rockland County, NY until 1989 taking another leap of faith to open an Italian family restaurant, Mama Lina’s on Warwick Blvd. in Newport News, VA. With much blood, sweat and tears, the restaurant became a success and beloved by many. Mama Lina’s will forever be missed and remembered in our hearts. Lina’s memory will continue to live on until our last breath.
