Jonathan N. Porter, 43, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, in Virginia Beach, VA. Born on June 11, 1982, in Houston, TX, he was the beloved son of John Nickerson and April Porter.
Jonathan grew up in Houston and attended Worthing High School, where his love for football first took root. A devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he not only cheered from the stands but also played on the field — including his time with the Wolfpack Football Team in Pensacola, FL. His passion for the game was matched only by his love for his family and country.
Jonathan proudly served over 22 years in the United States Navy, rising to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. His naval career began on March 3, 2003, and was marked by dedication, leadership, and a deep commitment to service. From his first assignment aboard the USS Constitution in Massachusetts to deployments in Kuwait, Japan, and the Pacific Command, he led and mentored countless Sailors and Marines. His operational and instructional excellence earned him numerous accolades, including five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
Outside of his military service, Jonathan was a man of deep heart and strong values. He adored his wife, Mikendra Porter, and was a proud and devoted father to Jathan, Makayla, and Jonathan Jr. He cherished spending time outdoors — hunting, fishing, and grilling for his family and friends. He had a natural gift for bringing people together and dreamed of opening a fitness center in his hometown to support and uplift his community.
Jonathan’s legacy is one of love, honor, and unwavering service. He was a proud Houston native, a patriot, a devoted husband and father, and a faithful friend. He will be remembered for his generosity, warm spirit, and the positive impact he had on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He leaves behind a life full of love, laughter, and purpose — and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
