David Michael “Dave” Wilson, 53, of Newport News

David Michael “Dave” Wilson (Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory)

Mr. David Michael “Dave” Wilson, 53, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on May 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Diagnosed in December 2024 and losing his beloved mother Wanda shortly after, Dave faced his illness with strength and grace, surrounded by the love of his family, determined to make great memories.

Born in Newark, Delaware, Dave was the son of the late Wanda and Boone Wilson Jr. He grew up in Newark and graduated from Newark High School before attending Delaware Technical Community College to study Business. His early years were shaped by a strong Baptist upbringing, which later evolved into a deep devotion to Catholicism. In recent years, he found great comfort and purpose in his faith, practicing daily prayers and aspiring to formally join the Catholic Church.

For nearly two decades, Dave worked as a dedicated dump truck driver for Branscome. His commitment to his work was matched only by his passion for life outside of it. A true nature lover at heart, Dave loved camping in the mountains, exploring new places and road trips to historical landmarks- especially those steeped in the rich history of Virginia and Tennessee, the states he cherished deeply. Whether discovering a hidden gem or revisiting Texas, he found joy in every adventure.

Dave had an adventurous palate and delighted in trying new foods wherever he went and found great joy in cooking for his family. He was also an avid fan of hockey and baseball and could often be found listening to old country tunes or enjoying a live heavy metal show with Cathy and Annabelle. His eclectic taste in music reflected his vibrant personality. Above all else, he treasured quiet moments with a good historical book and time spent appreciating art and history at a museum with his family. Dave found comfort ending the day by sitting in the backyard with his beloved dogs Red and Mena.

Those who knew Dave will remember him as one-of-kind, hilarious, deeply religious and a dedicated family man. He brought laughter and warmth into every room and impressed others with his knowledge of music, history and trivia. He lived with an open heart and valued his deep friendships with his Branscome family.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Theresa and Bonnie; brothers, Fred and James and grandson, Donovan. He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine Wilson; daughters, Annabelle Wilson and Carmen Breckenridge (Blake); son, Jacob Breckenridge (Brandie); sister, Debbie Williams (Al) and granddaughters, Layla, Sophia and Allie.

Dave’s memory will live on through the many lives he touched with his humor, kindness, and unwavering spirit. May his legacy bring comfort to those who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Weymouth Funeral Home with Rev. George Prado officiating, with visitation to follow in the funeral home chapel.
