Ophelia Taliferro Harris (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

Ophelia Taliferro Harris, lovingly known as “Aunt Fe,” passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, at Riverside Rehabilitation Center in Hampton, Virginia. She was born on December 11, 1945, the youngest of five children born to the late Warren and Annie Beatrice Walker Taliferro in Newport News, Virginia.

She attended the Newport News Public School System and graduated from George Washington Carver High School.

After relocating to Washington, D.C., Ophelia began a long and dedicated career at C&P Telephone Company (now AT&T), where she worked until retirement. Her warmth and generosity were known far and wide—always ready to open her home to family and friends, especially those traveling between Newport News and Washington, D.C. She cherished these gatherings, especially time spent hosting her beloved cousins.

Ophelia “Fe” Harris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts.

Ophelia was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son Rodney Hill. She leaves behind her devoted partner James Askew; loving siblings, Donald Leon Taliferro of Colonial Heights, VA, Mary K. Jones of Hattiesburg, MS, Ann J. Moore (Sam) of Birmingham, AL, and Merle T. Glover (Raphael) of Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who brought her great joy.
