Varnee René Whitehead Quarles, 71, of Charles City, Virginia passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 2, 2025. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Robert P. Whitehead, Sr. and Princetta Crewe Whitehead, and her brother, Robert “Scootie” P. Whitehead, Jr.
Varnee retired from Verizon (formerly Bell Atlantic), Richmond, VA in 2006, after 32 years of service. Varnee lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed decorating, working in the yard, clean cars, good music, a good cookout, and spending time with family and friends.
Our “Vern” leaves to cherish her memory her son, Lorenzo Johnson, Jr. (Monique), daughter, Andrea Quarles, granddaughters, Dymond Harris, MaKaylah and MaKyah Quarles, Brooklyne “Brook” Holmes, and great-grandson Karter “Karter-man” Gibson. She also leaves to cherish her memory loving and devoted sisters, Valerie, Princess and Shelly Whitehead, Marcia Brown and Vanita Vaughan (George), Special Aunt, Mary Crewe, and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held 1PM, Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA, 23140. A viewing will be held Friday, March 14, 2025, from 6-8pm, at the funeral home.
