David West Tobler, 82, of Williamsburg went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 1st, 2025.
David was born on September 16, 1942, in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jessie and Hassie Tobler. He was the second born of five boys including, Roy, Earl, Weldon (Francis) and James (Becky).
David served in the Virginia National Guard for six years and retired from the Yorktown Naval Weapon Station after 28 years of civil service as an HVAC technician. During his career, David also owned and operated a grass cutting business for 16 years as well as a home appliance repair business.
When Davis wasn’t working, he enjoyed farming, cutting hay and raising cattle. He also greatly enjoyed hosting annual family reunions at his farm in Hillsville, the place where he was born and dearly loved to be.
For many years, David served as an usher at Liberty Baptist Church in Lanexa. More recently, he regularly attended and served as a board member of First Simple Church in Williamsburg, until his illness prevented him from leaving home.
David married the love of his life, Claudia Frankie Lindsay on June 18, 1983. This union resulted in a precious angel, Nicole, who never made it to full term. He also became the father to daughter, Lisa Shook (David) of Surry County and son, Craig Borkman (Kelly) of Virginia Beach.
David was so proud of his three grandsons, Hunter and Johsua Shook and Grant Borkman. A day never passed when he didn’t spend time with them and enjoyed sharing in their day.
David was an example of a hardworking, family-loving, God-fearing man. Even though David had a terminal illness and spent many of his waking hours gasping for breath, he was faithful to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He knew he would live forever in heaven, where there is no sickness and no pain, only pure love and joy.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, March 15th at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
