Lloyd Chester Ware, 94, of Newport News

Lloyd Chester Ware (Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory)

Lloyd Chester Ware, 94, a lifelong resident of Newport News, VA, was called home to our Heavenly Father on March 7, 2025.

Born in a log cabin in the mountains of Virginia, Lloyd was the son of Howard M. Ware and Farrar H. Ware. He lived his whole life on the Peninsula and worked at Newport News Shipyard from 1947, when he entered the apprentice school, until his retirement in 1989. He was a long-time member of Hilton Baptist Church where he participated in the choir and served as a deacon until family health issues prevented such.

Lloyd and Bea were faithful to the community having volunteered for a mission with Operation Smile to the Philippines and served as Santa and Mrs. Claus at CHKD for children with terminal and serious medical issues. He worked with Warwick Ruritans, Warwick Masonic Lodge, and other community callings.

He possessed many talents from working with his hands to reading voraciously and will be greatly missed.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia Ware Letchworth and his wife of 69 years, Beatrice Carver Ware, also known as Bea. He is survived by his daughter, Shari Ware Fleck (Michael); his sons, Joseph Lloyd Ware (Cathi Urick) and Michael Bruce Ware (Eve); 4 grandchildren, Mauri Ware, Jennifer Hartman, Christine Fleck, and Jon Michael Fleck (Mary), and 2 great-grandchildren, Jordan Gray (Jacob) and Mikayla Hartman.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request that you contribute in his honor to the organization that best shares your beliefs and is most important to you and the community.

God has welcomed him home and he is now reunited with his wife Beatrice “Bea”.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
