From a young age, William displayed an insatiable curiosity and a deep appreciation for the world around him. This zest for life led him to serve with distinction in the United States Army, where he joined at the age of 20 and was stationed in Europe. His service not only demonstrated his dedication to his country but also nurtured his love of travel and exploration.
After his esteemed military career, William pursued his entrepreneurial spirit by founding his own landscaping company. His passion for nature and knack for innovation allowed him to thrive in this field. Eventually, he channeled his expertise and leadership skills into his role as an Operations Manager at Didlake, where he was adored by his coworkers for his boisterous personality and his eagerness to share knowledge.
William’s intellectual pursuits were matched only by his artistic ones. A self-taught guitarist and passionate singer-songwriter, he often shared his musical talents at Mt. Trashmore or local coffee shops, bringing joy to everyone who had the pleasure of listening. Music was William’s sanctuary, and with every melody, he wove tales of wonder and wisdom.
His love for learning was evident in his extensive reading, especially in non-fiction subjects, which he often discussed over a cherished cup of coffee. A graduate of George Mason University with a Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, William’s green thumb extended beyond his profession—he delighted in caring for plants, nurturing them with the same devotion he showed to those around him.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, Rose and William Schwartz, and his mother, Deborah Gillis, William is survived by his former spouse and lifelong friend Colleen, his loving son Will, daughter Alison, and her husband Devon. His legacy also lives on in the hearts of many cherished coworkers and friends.
William’s capacity for love and learning was magnified by his lively and outgoing spirit. He was a beacon of wisdom and joy, always ready to teach others what he knew with warmth and enthusiasm.
