John Douglas Robbins, 79, of Norfolk

John Douglas Robbins (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

John Douglas Robbins, “Johnny Rocket”, passed away January 27th 2025 at the age of 79.

He was a “car guy” through and through; starting with go kart racing as a young teen and then drag racing his muscle cars all over Norfolk and Chesapeake. He claimed he had the fastest car at Great Bridge High School. He always said cars were in his blood; “ I have a need for speed!” and he had a million stories to entertain his friends and loved ones.

But even more than fast cars Johnny loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cindi “Rella”, 3 dearly loved daughters; Jill, Lisa and Leigh- Ann and his poodle Dolly. Eight beloved grandchildren; Christian, Loren, Logan, Colten, Lindsey, Ethan, Savanah and Hayden. Four precious great grandchildren, Sophia, Maverick, Genevieve “Gigi” and Colton. He was predeceased by his parents John and Helen Robbins and his cherished little boy Jared, “Hot Rod”.

Johnny would ask that you remember him with a laugh, not a tear. His philosophy of life: “Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely. In a well preserved body, but rather to pin the throttle, Skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting “wow what a ride.”

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s honor to either the Norfolk SPCA or CHKD.

Condolences may be shared with the family here.

A time to gather and share memories will be announced later.
