Patricia Hitchings Bevan passed away December 2, 2024 in Virginia Beach after a brief illness and journey with Alzheimer’s.
Born February 27, 1940, she was the daughter of Charles Hitchings and Bessie Mae Hitchings. She loved her life growing up in Oceana with her parents and sisters. She enjoyed years of twirling her baton at Princess Anne High School before she attended East Carolina University where she marched in the band as a majorette.
She went back home to Virginia Beach to work as a kindergarten teacher at Sunnybrook Day School. During that time, she met her beloved husband, Jim. They married in 1965 and started a family the next year. She loved being a housewife and mom. You could find her playing with her kids, decorating and cooking some yummy desserts for her family, neighbors, or a sick friend.
She and her husband taught her family to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, finding answers to life in His Word. She was actively involved in children’s ministry, leading the children’s choir and teaching Sunday school for over 55 years at First Presbyterian Church, Scott Memorial United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
After moving to Williamsburg, Virginia, she continued teaching Sunday school at Williamsburg United Methodist Church and worked in childcare at New Town United Methodist Church where she could be found singing and playing on the floor surrounded by little ones.
She loved spending time with her family, and her grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed attending many sporting and band events over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bevan, her sisters Barbara Gresham and Loretta Tate. She leaves behind her daughter, Tiffany Dormire and her husband Scott, son Charlie Bevan and his wife Jennifer, daughter Noel Bevan, granddaughter Hope Jones and her husband Tripp, grandson Graham Dormire, and numerous extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Patricia’s Memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
