Barbara Atkins Carlton, age 68, of Gloucester, VA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 5th, 2024.
Barbara was born in King William, VA on October 19th, 1955. She married the love of her life, Ronald Wilford Carlton, on March 17th, 1979. On February 15th, 1993, Barbara and Ronnie became the proud parents of their daughter and only child, Shannan.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Robert Clarence Atkins, and mother, Virginia Cora Paul Atkins.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Ronald Carlton; her daughter, Shannan Crawford and son-in-law, Cory Crawford; her four sisters, Janice Atkins, Marlene Hazzard, Hazel Marshall, and Jeanette Wilmoth; and her many nieces and nephews, Christina Atkins, Victoria Atkins, Vonda Martin, Robert Hazzard, Jenny Parrish, Renee Marshall, Wayne Marshall, Jamie Wilmoth, and David Wilmoth, and their children.
Barbara was full of love and happiness, even during her battles with breast cancer and Multiple Sclerosis. She had a beaming personality that touched the lives of everyone around her. She loved her dogs and cats as if they were her own children, and she always put her loved ones before herself. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, reading, baking, watching old western reruns, and loudly singing along to all of her favorite music. She had such a beautiful spirit; one that could bring light to even the darkest of times. She will be greatly missed, and impossible to forget.
There will be a small celebration of life at Nick’s Steak and Spaghetti House in Saluda, VA at 2pm, on what would have been Barbara’s 69th birthday, October 19th, 2024.
If anyone wishes to donate, donations will go towards the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Gloucester County Fire and Rescue.
