Earl Eason departed this earthly life on September 10, 2024, in the comfort of his home in Providence Forge, Virginia with his family by his bedside. He was born on January 2, 1944, the youngest of three boys to the late Sarah Eason, in Edgecombe County, North Carolina.
Earl was educated in the Edgecombe County Public Schools until he was needed on the family farm. During the time, he helped his grandparents in the tobacco “baka” fields. He remained in North Carolina until the death of the family mule. His brothers tell this story often and he thought he was the cause. But, as the truth unfolds, the mule suffered an injury. Because of that reason, he left North Carolina vowing never to return. At the age of 23, Earl moved to Virginia with his close friend, the late Charlie Wooten. He worked at a Hotel on Richmond Rd until he was hired by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). He worked at VDOT for thirty-four years until his retirement in 2010.
He attended St. Paul Holiness Church, serving on the usher board, men’s choir, and devotion leader. He was a willing vessel for the kingdom of God.
In 1999, He married the former Gloria Dean Ellis from Surry County, Virginia. They enjoyed life together until God called her home. Saddened by this sudden loss he poured all of himself into his children and grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Pa-Pa” he spoiled them all.
He was a loving, faithful and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He was known for his many pet peeves in life and his sarcastic delivery.
Earl is preceded in death by his mother Sarah Eason; wife Gloria Eason; son Carl Daye; and great-grandson Aiden Brown.
Earl is survived by his eight children, Brenda Daye (Cheri), Annette Daye, Robert Ellis (Mary), Pettra Ellis, Glenn Earl Edmonds, Cornell Daye (Tamara), Anthony Strong (Cindy), and Athena Evans; two brother, Jessie Eason (Mildred) and William Eason (late Helen Eason); sixty grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; best friend Richard Morton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
