Allen Eugene Barbrey, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on September 5, 2024, at the age of 65 after fighting a battle with cancer for 3 years. Born on December 30, 1958, in Newport News, Virginia, Allen lived most recently in Aylett, Virginia.
He was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his wife Nancy with whom he shared 43 years of marriage, and their three children: Kristi, Allen (Michelle), and Shane (Ashley). Allen also leaves behind his mother, Katherine Barbrey, and his sister, Deborah Carpenter (Hal).
Known affectionately as “Poppaw,” Allen’s greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren: Avery, Mason, Harper, Adalyn, Rhett, and Carolina. He loved them deeply and took immense pleasure in watching them grow.
Together, they created countless memories, especially during family vacations, which brought him great joy.
Allen was preceded in death by his brother Michael Barbrey and father Joseph Barbrey.
Allen dedicated over 30 years of his life as a machinist at AMF Bakery, where his work ethic and commitment were highly regarded. Allen was a passionate baseball coach, giving back to the community through his involvement in little league for James City and King William County for over 30 years. His love for the sport and dedication to coaching deeply impacted many young players including his own sons and grandson. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors doing yard work, gardening, grilling, and fixing things around the home.
Allen Eugene Barbrey will be remembered for his unwavering love for his children, grandchildren, family vacations, and his passion for baseball. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for all who knew him. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
