Rick Pittman was unexpectedly called home on April 18, 2024, in Charles City, Virginia. He was born in Smithfield, North Carolina on May 5, 1957.
He moved with his family from North Carolina to Hampton, Virginia when he was a teenager and he graduated from Bethel High School in 1976. He had several jobs culminating with his career as the Store Manager of Food Lion #418 where he retired on May 5, 2019 after twenty-three years of loyal and dedicated service.
Rick was preceded in death by his mother and father, Dorothy Edwards Pittman and Thomas Louis Pittman, Sr., as well as brothers Rodney Pittman, Tommy Pittman and his sister, Linda Pittman Cash.
Rick is survived by his faithful dog Chuck, who is grieving along with the rest of us; his best friend who is like a brother to him, Russell Fetter and his wife Becky and children, Raymond, Hannah and Charlie who all called him ‘Rickey P.’ and the entire Fetter family; a sister, Pat Pittman; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Pittman; several nephews and nieces; many cousins in Carolina and Virginia who will cherish his memory and miss him terribly; a close friend Carl Lesser; his Food Lion family; several close friends in the INO Hunt Club; the best neighbors a guy could ever have, Ralph and Bubba; along with many dear friends who held a special place in his heart.
Anyone who knew Rick would say he was enjoying retirement to its fullest. He loved his dog Chuck, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends. He so looked forward to hunting season and couldn’t wait for it to start. He was recently chosen for a special award at the hunt club.
Rick never met a stranger and was always ready to help someone in need. He wouldn’t hesitate to cut someone’s grass and participated in ‘Adopt A Highway’ for his community. He was a die-hard Dale Earnhardt #3 fan and loved the Washington ‘Redskins’.
Rick was a changed man when he decided to follow Jesus.
The family will receive friends at Vincent Funeral Home 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140 on Friday May 3rd from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
A private funeral will be held at a later date.
