The Lord whispered to me, “ I love you, so come follow me my child, high places we will go.” The Lord knelt beside me at an altar in prayer, he wiped my tears and took away my despair. Come follow me my child.
Wilbert Luther Jones quietly entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Williamsburg Post Acute & Rehabilitation Center in Williamsburg, Virginia. Wilbert was born on June 3, 1941 to Luther and Jessie Jones.
Wilbert accepted Christ into his heart at an early age, where he joined Mt. Sterling, then later became a member of Parrish Hill Baptist Church. Under his membership, Wilbert became a Deacon and served faithfully for over forty years. He was also an Usher and Sexton of the church for many years, which he took pride in doing until his health began to fail.
Wilbert worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for 44 ½ years. He always greeted everyone with a wave, and a smile, while working along the highway. He had an infatuation for race cars, and racetracks. Race season couldn’t come early enough for his brother Willie and him to go to Sandston or Virginia Motorsports, in Dinwiddie County, where they’d meet up with old friends.
Most of all, Wilbert loved the Lord and would tell about His goodness where ever he would go. He especially loved Parrish Hill Baptist Church and was there whenever the doors were open. Wilbert was a family man, always making sure his family was taken care of, and never wanted for anything. He never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off of his back. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bernice, Margaret Jean, Joann and Frances; and his brother, Forrest Jones.
Wilbert leaves his loving memories in the hearts of his wife of 47 years, Flossie Estell; his five children, two devoted, Jacqueline Jones-Harper and devoted son-in-law William, Eric Jones (Vernice), Roberta Aigbokhaevbo (Ozemoya), Willie (Roxie) and Vence Brown (Linda); 11 grandchildren, 2 devoted, McKinzey Meredith and Ericka Hawkins; 3 great-grandchildren, 1 devoted, E’layah Hawkins; one brother, Willie Jones; 2 brothers-in-law, 1 devoted, Christopher “Lum” Brown and Richard Brown (Diane); 1 devoted sister-in-law, Rev. Mary Brown; a special and devoted friend/caregiver, Robin Bradby and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
