Jacob “Jake” Wooten, 20, of Lanexa, and his beloved brother, Michael M. “Mikey” Mayes, III, 17, of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Jacob was a graduate of New Kent High School where he was on the football, baseball and wrestling teams. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan who loved spending time with his family and longtime girlfriend, Taylor Sheaffer. Jake and Mikey were an inseparable duo that spent countless hours “under the hood” of vehicles, working together. Both boys were avid hunters and fisherman that enjoyed running their hound dogs.

Jacob was preceded in death by three great-grandparents, Buck Tomlin, and Ed and Ann Renick; and grandfather, Bill Wolfe. He is survived by his mother, Amanda Wooten-Mayes (John); father, Tucker Renick (Hillary); longtime girlfriend, Taylor Sheaffer; brother, Caleb Mayes; sister, Emma Rose Renick; paternal grandparents, Deane Renick (Julie) and Tessa Ludwig (Kurt); maternal grandparents, Belinda Ciejek and Christopher Ciejek (Kim); great-grandparents, John “Stack” and Doris Wooten, Judy Morgan, Lynn Tomlin and Judy Spain; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and “loads of friends”.

Mikey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill Wolfe, and Amy and Mike Mayes. He is survived by his mother, Amanda Wooten-Mayes (John); father, Michael “Mike” Mayes (Jessica); brothers, Caleb Mayes and Christopher Hitt; maternal grandparents, Belinda Ciejek and Christopher Ciejek (Kim); great-grandparents, John “Stack” and Doris Wooten, Judy Morgan; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and “loads of friends”.

The Wooten and Renick families will hold a joint Celebration of Life for Jacob and Michael at 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 10 at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140. They will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., just prior to the service. Burial will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park, Williamsburg, VA.

Michael Mayes’ paternal family will receive friends separately, from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 17 at Vincent Funeral Home in West Point.
