Carter James Clements, 81 of Mattaponi VA passed away on September 16, 2023 after a courageous fight.

Carter was born in Gloucester, VA to the late James Albert Clements and Mary James Clements. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Clements Fields and Jean Ann Clements.

Carter met Mary Ann Bristow Clements in Gloucester, VA. Carter and Mary Ann went on to have two children, Paula Clements Dean (Kevin) and Carla Ann Clements Pumo (Mike). They have 5 grandchildren: Britney Dean Cardman, Kaitlyn Dean Holliday, Landon, Grace, and Lily Pumo, and 6 great-granddaughters.

In 2007, Carter married Rosa Lee Soles Clements. This grew the family with Rosa Lee’s daughters Michelle Soles Ammons and Shawn Soles Carter and three grandsons, Josh Ammons, Cole Smith and Camden Carter.

Carter is a veteran of the United States Army where he served for 8 years. He was a skilled musician and known for playing his beloved Blue Grass music on his mandolin. Carter was an avid Ham radio operator and enjoyed camping, Blue Grass Festivals, square-dancing, woodworking and leather work.

After retiring from Chesapeake corporation, he enjoyed working at the Middle Peninsula airport for almost twenty years. He also volunteered at the King and Queen fire department.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 18 at Poroporone Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Tuesday, September 19 at Poroporone Baptist Church. Interment in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Poroporone Baptist Church, PO Box 400, Shacklefords, VA 23156.
