Ralph Roane “Joe” Sutton, 61, of Plain View, VA went to be with his Lord and Savior August 5, 2023.
Joe was a seasoned farmer, growing corn, soy beans, small grain & hay, as well as raising cattle. His favorite crops were sweet corn and pumpkins, which he gladly shared with loved ones and the community. When he wasn’t working the land, Joe relished time spent with friends and family. He was also the primary caregiver for his mother until the time of her death in 2008.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betsy Sutton; and lifelong friend, Bruce Nelson. He is survived by his three brothers, Robert “Bobby” Sutton, III (Ann), William “Billy” Sutton (Mary), James “Jim” Sutton (Helen); his life partner, Debbie Marshall; nieces and nephews, Rob, Beth, Ansley, Logan, Ali, Kathryn, Clay, David and Whitney; lifelong friend, Todd Nelson; numerous cousins, countless friends; his three beloved dogs, Doli, Jessie and Ellie; and one cat, Miss Kitty.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, August 11 at Shackelfords Chapel United Methodist Church, 3727 Buena Vista Road, Shacklefords, VA, with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 10 at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th St., West Point, VA.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of the VCU cardiac units.
Joe was an informal man and would want everyone attending services to feel comfortable. Just come as you are.
