Remo Loreto D’Antonio, 95, passed away on August 4, 2023 at his home.
He was born in the beautiful mountain town of Villalago, Italy to Emilio and Sabina D’Antonio. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. He was always ready to serve others, full of fun, and generous with his time and talent. He was a jack of all trades and was able to fix just about anything around the house. He went to work at the age of 12 as an apprentice to a shoemaker.
After the end of World War II, at the age of 19, Remo came to the United States. Soon after, and prior to receiving his citizenship, he joined the U. S. Army. He served with the 982nd Engineer Battalion and Army Reserve for six years and was rapidly promoted to the rank of sergeant. He returned to Italy and married his wife of 69 years, Lina. He worked for Basic Construction Company for over 50 years, a majority of the time, as the maintenance shop supervisor. He was an original member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and a founding member of the Peninsula Italian American Lodge 2145, where he was famous for his pizzelle cookies. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus – Walter Pollard Council 5480.
Remo was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Lucille D’Antonio; brothers, Tonio D’Antonio and Gregory D’Antonio and sister, Loreta Davis. He is survived by his wife, Lina; daughter, Anna (Bob Mason); grandchildren, Holly (Jamie) Whitley and Bobby (Blair) Mason; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Montague; brother, Frederick (Jane) Dantonio; brother-in-law, William Davis; sister-in-law, Martha D’Antonio, as well as extended family and friends.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at St. Jerome Catholic Church by Rev. George Prado. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park.
