Philip Lawrence Barksdale, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully March 12, 2023 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.
Philip was born in Crozet, VA on April 27, 1935. He was an honest and hard-working man who was deeply devoted to his family.
Philip was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Billie Mae Barksdale; daughter, Janice Lorraine O’Conner; mother, Lucille Wood Conits; and a grandson, Philip Edward Lawrence.
Left to cherish his memory are daughters Tracy Lynne Jones and Sandi Michelle Purdy; grandchildren Jennifer Leigh Folks, Kristin Marie Perry, Jordan Tyler Raines, and Eileen Mekenzie Jones; and great-grandchildren Evelyne Marie Raines and Elizabeth Mae Raines; and a host of other family and friends.
Philip was a veteran, having served in the US Coast Guard and National Guard. He enjoyed carpentry work, gardening, and anything to do with home renovation and remodeling. He was an avid reader and loved spending time with and caring for his family. Philip had a great sense of humor and loved to travel with his wife, Billie.
Philip was a devoted son, friend, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Philip will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Private services will be held at a late date, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association to honor Philip’s love and devotion to his dear wife.
