Elizabeth “Rose” Fleming, 80, a lifelong resident of Newport News passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Born to the late James John “Jimmy” Gallins and Maria Tsitsera Gallins, Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Leroy Fleming. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Aretie Gallins Patterson (John), Joanne Gallins, and Penny Gallins-Viehweg (Marty); her children, Michael Fleming (Michele), Scott Fleming, Chris Fleming, and Lynnette Fleming; four granddaughters, Jessica, Michaela (Ryan), McKenzie and Olivia as well as six great grandchildren.

Rose was a graduate of Newport News High School Class of 1960 and a member of Menchville Baptist Church. She loved going to Tops with her friends, attending Sunday School, reading her Bible & bible books, and doing word search puzzles.  In her final years, she was happiest when surrounded by family over a shared meal.

The family would like to thank her caregivers with Riverside Home Health, especially Netosha and Sharon, and family friend, Kathy, who all gave Rose excellent care over the last years of her life.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Weymouth Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023 at  Peninsula Memorial Park with Pastor Jim Weston officiating.
