Roland McLendon, Jr. left us too soon and entered into everlasting life on November 1, 2022, in his home in Virginia Beach, VA. His life’s journey began on September 15, 1963, the son of Wilhelmina Copeland McLendon and the late Roland McLendon, Sr. Roland was affectionately known by his family as “Chuggie.” He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Born and raised in Newport News, Virginia, he spent his younger years playing basketball, fishing, and making many fond memories with his cousins. He was a member of Colossian Baptist Church from an early age. After graduating from Denbigh High School, Roland attended Old Dominion University. He was proud to be a Monarch completing his academics with an MBA in finance. His entire work career was with Sentara Healthcare where he retired as Director of Decision Support. When not working, Roland enjoyed spending with friends and family. He especially enjoyed helping his nieces and nephew with school and sports activities. He also enjoyed listening to jazz. Quiet in nature, generous in support, and wise in advice, Roland was just simply one of the kindest souls to know and love.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roland McLendon, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving mother, Wilhelmina Copeland McLendon; devoted siblings, Michael Johnson (Mary) and Laurie Manns (Troy); nephew, Yuri Manns; nieces, Kaliah Coleman and Kyndall Manns; special friends that were always there for him, John Jones and Debbie Allen; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other loving relatives, and many caring friends.
