Sharon Elaine Brooks was born on April 8, 1956, the daughter of the late Alberta P. and Elver Lee Brooks of Yorktown, Virginia. Sharon peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on Monday, October 31, 2022, at her home in Newport News, Virginia.
A Time to Sow
Sharon attended York County Public Schools and graduated from Tabb High School’s Class of 1974. In her youth, she attended Grafton Baptist Church and sang in the Junior choir. She was employed at Huntington Ingalls (Formerly Newport News Shipbuilding), where she retired after forty years of dedicated service. Sharon loved sewing and decorating. She was fortunate and blessed to work with a craft that she loved. She was an outstanding cook and enjoyed shopping and spending time with family and friends. After retirement, she had HSN, QVC, and Amazon on speed dial. She was kindhearted and enjoyed giving/donating to those she loved.
A Time to Embrace
Sharon is survived by the love of her life, her son, Dominque Brooks of Corolla, North Carolina; four brothers, Elver “Slim” Brooks (Pinky), George “Baby Lee” Brooks, Horace Brooks, and Stan Brooks; sister, Penny Brooks-Boone (Roy); nieces, Dion Brooks, Chiquita Ross-Carrie, Dawn Outlaw (Lamont), Takiyah Brooks, Kanika Wyatt, Kiana Lawrence (Trey); nephew, Andre’ Brooks; a great-nephew who was close to her heart, Kevin Brooks; best friend, Helen Wyatt; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A Time to Celebrate
A Celebration of Life service will be held at noon on Monday, November 7, 2022, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Live stream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in Grafton Baptist Church Memorial Park. Ms. Brooks may be viewed on Monday beginning at 10.00 a.m. until the hour of her service. Facial coverings are required.
