George Albert Freed, 54, died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at his home. George was born in Heidelberg, Germany and graduated from Ferguson High School in 1987. He was the owner of George Freed Design and Remodel Company where he was a skilled craftsman. He enjoyed many outdoor activities. He began surfing as a youth which led to his love of snowboarding. He played on city softball teams and later in life could be found on the golf course. His professional teams were The Boston Celtics, The San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Orioles. George was a friendly and kind soul and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
George was preceded in death by his mother, Franziska Freed and his brother, Anton Freed. He is survived by his children, Lauren A. Freed and Nathan G. Freed both of Newport News; his father, James L. Freed of Newport News; his brother, Mike Freed of Colorado; the mother of his children and dearest friend, Ann Freed of Newport News and close friend, Amy Hughes of Hampton.
A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Weymouth Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a brief time after the service.
