Willard Kendall “Sonny” Lipscomb, Jr., of New Kent County passed away May 21, 2022. He graduated from New Kent High School in 1956, Washington & Lee ROTC in 1960, William and Mary Law School in 1962 and later the Judge Advocate General’s School at UVA. Kendall’s law career was vast, serving in many areas such as the Law Clerk Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia, UA Army Judge Advocate General Corps-Captain in Fort McClellan, AL, Commonwealth Attorney in New Kent, and Attorney at Law with Taylor, Hazen, Kauffman, Lipscomb & Smith.

Kendall had a great love for New Kent County and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, which showed in the many different capacities in which he served. He was the President/Treasurer at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Restoration Association, was involved with the New Kent Businessman Association and Chamber of Commerce, was a Charter member of New Kent Jaycees, member of the Sertoma Richmond and Chickahominy Clubs, and member of New Kent and Virginia Historical Societies. Some of his hobbies included traveling, cruising, RV camping, landscaping, gardening and being a true whiskey enthusiast. He loved wintering in Palm Beach County Florida. Kendall was a southern gentleman in every way, and was always dressed to the nines.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Catherine Mae Walker Lipscomb; and his parents, Willard and Helen Mae Thurston Lipscomb.

Kendall is survived by his daughters, Debra L. Oakley and Brenda L. Ellison (Timothy); grandchildren, Joshua Martin and Denver Oakley, IV and Erin Ellison; a brother, Julian Lipscomb; sister-in-law, Sapphira (Ritchie) Richardson Lipscomb; nephews and their families; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. May 26th at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 27th at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church 8400 St. Peter’s Lane, New Kent, VA 23124. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Peter’s Restoration Association (address above).
