Nellie Elene Stewart Holmes, 96 of Providence Forge went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 23, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Edward “Gus” Holmes, her parents, Oliver and Mozella Stewart and grandsons Hawkins, Devin and Greg.

She is survived by her children, Merle, Drue, Linda, Rose, Wakie, Edith, Harley, Hilda, Dave, Audrey, Lowell, Alva, and Janet; grandchildren, Darrin, Daphne, Robbie, Becky, Michelle, Lisa, Brandon, Farrar, Kristen, Mary, Hawk, Meagan, Patrick, Loren, Lisa and Valerie; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Samantha, Mallorie, Maggi, Dakota, Thunder, Chance, Landon, Peyton, Mason, Kate, Maverick, Cooper, Londyn, Brooklyn (coming soon), Ryan, Matthew, Amber, Grace, Laura and Dustin; great-great-grandchildren, Jessalyn, Arabelle, Alaina, Khloe, Katrina and Raylan; and all of Aunt Drue’s babies that loved Grandma Nellie; her siblings, Ronald, Melvin, Sydelle, Juanita, Kevin, Clinton, and Rosalyn; in-laws, John, Helene and Joyce; a special and devoted nephew, Russell (Charlene); along with a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Nellie was a master cake baker and was well known for her pound cakes. She was a devoted member of Samaria Baptist Church, Chickahominy Indian Tribe and musician for Woodmen of the World. She taught Sunday School for more than 60 years, Greeting Card Ministry, Baptist Young Women, Martha Phaus Circle, BTU teacher and Red Cross.

The family would like to thank Dr. Margaret Mountcastle and also the staff of At Home Care Hospice for their devoted care.

We would like to thank our family and friends for all of the cards, phone calls, food, prayers, love and support sent during this time.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, May 26th at Samaria Baptist Church, Providence Forge, VA with interment to follow. A viewing will be held 5 to 8 PM, Wednesday, also at Samaria Baptist Church.
