Jessie Homer Crabtree, 93, of Charles City

CHARLES CITY — Jesse Homer Crabtree, 93, of Charles City, Virginia, passed away on March 26, 2022, peacefully at his residence after battling a long-term illness. Homer (as he was known to his friends and family) was born January 6, 1929, in Bramwell, West Virginia, to the late Arleigh Clelle and Scioto Savannah Crabtree. He served his country in the US Army for two years, and then he spent most of his career as a bus mechanic, working for Trailways and then Greyhound, from which he retired. As a true mechanic, he was fascinated by anything with an engine, including not only automobiles and buses, but trains and airplanes. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing his harmonica, riding bikes, and sketching airplanes, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Mr. Crabtree was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who loved his God first, and his family second. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rosa Virginia Crabtree; his son, Timothy H. Crabtree (Wendy) of Highland Springs, Virginia, his daughter, Mavis Jefferson (Donald) of Highland Springs, Virginia, his son, Randall O. Crabtree (Debi) of Ocala, Florida, his son, James Mark Crabtree (Janice) of Henrico, Virginia, and his son, Lorne G. Crabtree (Teri) of Fitzgerald, Georgia; 15 grandchildren; and 21 ½ great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Alan Clelle Crabtree, one brother, and four sisters. The family would like to express their heart-felt appreciation for Mr. Crabtree’s caregiver’s, Tracy and Capricia, and hospice nurses, Shelly and Jennifer. The family would also like to say a special thanks to family members, Kaye Harris, Jill Jefferson and Natasha and Scott Greene for helping with the care of Mr. Crabtree.

A funeral service will be held on noon Friday, April 1, 2022, at the West Point Church of God, 500 Main Street, West Point, Virginia, with Rev. Wayne Groome and Rev. Mark Hambrick officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date in Washington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
