Dorothy “Dottie” Lee Poplawski of Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS — Dorothy “Dottie” Lee Poplawski died Sunday, February 6, 2022 in her home surrounded by family. Dottie was a lifelong resident of Newport News. She held a variety of jobs in her younger years: telephone operator, associate at the Veterans Administration, sales at the Base exchange and in her senior years, a sales associate at the Mole Hole in Newport News. She was a proud Charter Member of Denbigh Christian Church where she served in a multitude of roles which included: Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Vacation Bible School Director and children’s church Director. The most important attribute in her life was her love of God and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ned C. Gilliam and Dorothy (Gregory) and her husband, Edwin Joseph Poplawski.  She is survived by her children, Paul E. Rogers (Janice), Michael D. Poplawski (Terry) and Ann Poplawski Jackson (Jimmy); her grandchildren: Gregory Poplawski, Nicholas Poplawski, Morgan Poplawski, Tyler Jackson (Adrienne), Lauren Jackson, Olivia Morris (Greg), Melanie Tyree (Chris), Jamie McRae (Josh) and  her great- grandchildren: Gabrielle Morris, Erin Morris, Angelica McVey (Andy), Jack Tyree and Journey McRae.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Virginia Oncology Associates and Riverside Hospice for their exemplary care.

Services were Private with burial in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Denbigh Christian Church. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
