NEWPORT NEWS — Jean Carolyn (Morrison) Kennedy, 75, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Thanksgiving Day in Newport News, Virginia. Jean was born in Memphis, TN to Norma Jean Morrison and Herbert “Honey” Morrison. She was raised in Memphis not far from Graceland and graduated from Kingsbury High School. She later fell in love with Warren Stewart Kennedy, a handsome young marine who was stationed in Memphis. They married in August of 1964. Together they had two sons – Joseph Stewart Kennedy (Chesterfield, VA) and Kevin Herbert Kennedy (Boston, MA).

Jean was a true Southern belle, with nothing but a kind word and a generous spirit. Her first priority was her family. She stayed home when her boys were young and raised them to the men that they have become today. She beamed with joy as Joe became a chiropractic doctor and Kevin an urban planner. She deeply loved her daughters-in-law, Ashley (Stone) Kennedy of Chesterfield, VA and Kerri (O’Malley) Kennedy of Boston, MA. She deeply loved and enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren, Ella Madison Kennedy (16), Sean Marley Kennedy (12) and Stone Warren Kennedy (12). Her grandchildren were the joy of her life and were absolutely “perfect” in her eyes.

Jean worked various jobs while the boys were young, and ultimately found her calling in clothing retail. Most recently she worked at Christopher & Banks, first in Williamsburg and eventually in Newport News, VA, where she worked until retiring in summer of 2021. Jean was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband of 52 years, Warren. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law; brother, Mike Morrison and wife, Dronda of Memphis, TN; brother-in-law, Bruce Kennedy and wife, Madeline of Bennington, VT, as well as nieces and nephews and many cousins. Jean spent the majority of her life in Newport News, forming her closest friendships there, notably within church fellowships at Deer Park Baptist (Newport News), Orchid Baptist (Newport News) and Liberty Live (Hampton).

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Drive, Newport News, VA. Funeral Services will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
