Bette Lois Hood, 83, retired from Busch Gardens

TOANO — Bette Lois Hood, 83, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at the Envoy Nursing Home of Williamsburg. Bette was born on June 3, 1937 in Annapolis, Maryland, the daughter of the late Norman E. Weeks Sr. and Gertrude V. (Warfield) Weeks.

Bette’s passion was being a bus driver for 26 years for the city of Newport News school system. She lived out these years transporting the children to and from school. In later years, she was employed at Busch Gardens baking those delicious cakes and decorating them until she retired. Bette was the mother of seven children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Hood; son, Raymond Schabowsky; and brother, Norman Weeks.

Bette is survived by five sons, Robert Schabowsky (Barbara), David Schabowsky, Glenn Schabowsky, Brian Hood (Lisa) and Dale Hood (Katherine); daughter, Dawn Adams; sisters, Gloria L. Smith and Norma Fox; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Candi Schabowsky.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m., Monday, May 3, at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge.
