
TOANO — Our beloved Robert Lee “Popcorn” Walker Sr., 76, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, in the arms of the Lord at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 7, 1944, to the late Daniel and Martha Ann Walker.
Early in life, Robert accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He attended Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools and was employed for many years at The Candle- Light Restaurant until he retired in 2013.
Popcorn, as he was affectionately called, was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed watching Judge Judy and westerns and was a true Dallas Cowboy fan. He also loved baseball and the outdoors, but his greatest love of all was his family. Popcorn will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Walker; and brothers, Daniel Walker Jr. and Wesley Walker.
Robert is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Walker; sons, Lamont Jones, Robert Arrington (Wendy), Robert Walker Jr. (Renalda) and Derick Walker Sr. (Daphne); grandchildren, Brittany Boyd, Montesha Boyd, Derrick Greenhow, Destinee Walker, Derick Walker Jr., Lamont Jones Jr., Lamond Jones, Desia Walker, Daniel Walker, D’Shela Walker and Zayden Jones; great-grandchildren, E’Niyah Ruttley, JaMirah Graves and Jarrell Graves Jr.; three sisters, Rudell Walker, Marie Meekins and Elizabeth Hawkins (William); three sisters-in-law, Belinda Pretlow (James), Joanne Johnson and Donna Fogg (Howard); one brother-in-law, Dean Johnson (Lisa); devoted and special niece, Jamie Hawkins-Gray; and a host other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 19, at Whiting’s Funeral Home with Dr. Morris L. Randall Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance with facial coverings and social distancing requirements. Facebook livestreaming will be available at the beginning of the service. Mr. Walker may be viewed from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
