WILLIAMSBURG — Ivory Roy Simmons, 101, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021. He lived an amazingly full life and will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, unwavering positivity and willingness to help others.
Roy served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the XV Corps 3rd Field Artillery Observation Battalion in the European theatre of operations. He spent his civilian years in various sales roles.
Roy loved to travel, going on to visit all 48 contiguous states with his wife Peggy and travel to the United Kingdom to visit his daughter and her family. He could be found spending time with family and friends, going to his Army reunions all over the United States; going out to eat; playing cards, he particularly enjoyed a good game of Liverpool Rummy; and bowling. He was a faithful member of Grace Baptist church and enjoyed singing in the church choir and going to the monthly Golden Agers pot lucks. One of the things he loved most of all was ferrying the kids when they were young to their skating and swim competitions.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Simmons; and siblings, Betty, Mary Lou, Velmer, Walter, K.U., Jack, Troy, Oval and Clarence.
He is survived by his sons, Alan Simmons, and his wife, Amy, and Brian Simmons; daughter, Luann Simmons, and her husband, Vincent Garrett; grandchildren, Rebecca Simmons, Nathan Simmons and Elysia Frances-Garrett; and great-grandson, Gabriel Alexander.
