NEWPORT NEWS — God called our beloved Ruby Anita West to come home and live in eternal peace and joy Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020.
Ruby was born in Wilmington, North Carolina. She graduated from Huntington High School, Newport News; attended Peninsula Business College, Newport News; and Cortez Peters Business School, Washington, D.C.
She worked for the Department of Defense in the human resources area, which afforded her the opportunity to work in the United States as well as Italy, Germany and Korea. After moving back to Virginia, Ruby joined the Chapel of the Centurion and was a dedicated Christian. She was an active member of the Huntington High School Alumni Association.
Ruby will be most remembered for her extremely kind heart, her ability to make friends and her beautiful smile.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie F. Henry Sr. and Lillie B. Henry; two brothers, Thomas L. Henry Sr. and Edgar L. Henry; and granddaughter, Ahsha Anita-Patrice West. Ruby leaves to cherish her memory, son, Charles H. West Jr.; great-granddaughter, Ahrya M. McKinney-Brown; brother, Willie F. Henry Jr. (Lorelle); three sisters, Regina B. Miles, Theresa L. Henry and Vivian D. Henry; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will occur sometime in the future as the family has chosen to follow the COVID-19 health guidelines in order to protect the health and well-being of family and friends.
Share online condolences with the family at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.
