God called our beloved Ethel Lee Lester, 97, from labor to reward Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020. She answered the Master’s call quietly at Regency Health and Rehabilitation Center, Yorktown.
Ethel was born March 3, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was raised by Edward Latney and Mary Agnes Paige-Latney.
Ethel was educated in the York County School System and graduated from York County Training School in 1941. She was employed by the New York Telephone Company and retired after many years of faithful service. After her retirement, Ethel relocated back to Yorktown. Once back home, she enjoyed providing childcare for children and doing domestic work.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Grafton Baptist Church, Harris Grove, Yorktown. Ethel attended church regularly until her health declined. She enjoyed the Songs of Zion from the choirs and served with the Church Aide Ministry.
Ethel leaves to cherish her precious memories her companion of 32 years, George G. Walker; and a host of cousins, relatives and caring friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, at Grafton Baptist Church Cemetery, Harris Grove.
