VIRGINIA BEACH — Wilhelmenia Holmes, 84, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020. She was born March 12, 1936, to the late John and Ida Young in Norfolk.

Wihelmenia will be remembered for her loving and caring nature for others. She was very involved in her church. She cherished children and taught the Beginners class. She was a dedicated team leader for potlucks on Sabbath and a prayer warrior. She loved the Lord and blessed us often with her beautiful voice by singing with the church choir and by serenading us with hymns.

“Mena,” as some affectionately called her, was a nanny by profession for many years. The families that she worked for loved her very much. She was also a wonderful cook. She made delicious oatmeal patties and the best vegetarian meatballs. She had a fun-loving personality and was not afraid to stand up for herself. She did things with love, knowing that she was heaven bound.

Left to cherish her memory are her uncle, Ernest Wilkins; and very large church family.

A gathering to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, at Altmeyer Funeral Home Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach.

Share online condolences with the family at Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory.
