Domonic Qushawn “Dom” Powers, 31, suddenly and quietly departed this life Friday, May 8, 2020. His earthly journey began June 3, 1988, a son of Eureka Powers and Tracy Morris, in Newport News.
Domonic was educated in the York County public school system, graduating with the Bruton High School, Class of 2006. While in high school, he played both football and basketball. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Hampden Sydney University, where he continued his love of playing football winning an ODAC Division III Championship. He was a data and communications manager for the VA Infant and Toddler Specialist Network of Child Development Resources.
He enjoyed working out at the gym, playing basketball and spending time with his family and friends. Domonic had an amazing personality and a big infectious smile that would light up a room. His huge heart and loving soul allowed him to help so many people. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wallace Martin; and great-grandmothers, Mary Tony Powers and Margaret Martin. He leaves to cherish fond memories with his children, Krysany and Karson Powers; mother, Eureka Powers; father, Tracy Morris (Ovedia); fianceé, Heather Kerr; grandparents, Shirley Powers, the Rev. William Morris (Mildred) and Patricia Morris; brothers, Deron Powers and Tracy Morris Jr.; sisters, Tkisha Morris and Brooke Morris; uncles, Kasine Powers, Shane Hoskins, Kevin Morris and Dwight Morris; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from noon to 5 p.m., Friday, May 15, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. A private funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, May 16, at Whiting’s Chapel. Facebook livestream will be available for this service.
