Phyllis Mae Colbert, 79, of Poquoson, passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020. Phyllis was born March 3, 1940, in Newport News to Lucy Mae Gayle and William H. Gayle.
Phyllis worked as an administrative supervisor with the Newport News Fire Department for 35 years until her retirement in 2001.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Scott E. Colbert; daughter-in-law, Tammy L. Colbert; grandchildren, Kara Tharpe-Griffen, Brittany Weisenberg and Michael Tharpe; and great-grandchildren, Leah Nelson, Bailey Carter, Savanna Altman and Keagan Weisenberg.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, William H. Gayle; mother, Lucy Mae Gayle; brother, William Hopson Gayle Sr.; sister, Ann Spencer; and brother, Jack Gayle.
A graveside service for Phyllis will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13, at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton.
