Norman Dean Varner, 68, passed into eternal rest Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019. He was born April 11, 1951, to the late Arden and Lucy Varner.
Norman is survived by his loving wife, Karen Grace Varner; son, Robert Varner (Leah); stepsons, Jason Salaj (Laura) and Jacob Salaj (Robert Diaz-Arrastia); stepdaughter, Megan Salaj (Jonathan ReCasino); brother, Paul Varner (Shirley); and grandchildren, Sarah Varner, Austin Smith, Conner Salaj, Zoey Salaj, Chloe Salaj, Aeryn Salaj, Dean Varner and Calleigh Salaj.
Norman served his country and community with honor. He first proudly served in our U.S. Navy during Vietnam, and after serving there, he then joined the U.S. Army Reserve while subsequently serving as a police officer with Hampton City Police Department, from which he retired.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, part of the Patriot Guard, loved riding his Harley motorcycle, was an avid reader, but, most importantly, was the joy he found spending time with his family. He especially loved spending time with his angels on earth, his grandchildren.
Norman was a man of insurmountable faith. He turned to God in his darkest and brightest hours and had faith in His plan.
A memorial Mass will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a cause that was dear to his heart, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Share online condolences with the family at Bucktrout of Williamsburg Funeral Service.
