Edith Joan Griffin, 93, retired nurse who traveled the world

Edith Joan Griffin, 93, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at her home in Williamsburg. She was born Dec. 28, 1925, in Westonia, Western Australia, and lived an exciting life, coming to the United States in 1945 as a war bride.

She raised her children while working as a nurse then working and retiring from Fort Eustis after 30 years of federal service. After retirement, she dedicated her time to her children and grandchildren, she also traveled the world.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Griffin; and beloved granddaughter, Dorian Brown Griffin.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Edie Colbert, Dexter Griffin and James F. Griffin Jr. of Williamsburg, and Don Griffin of Port St. Lucie, Florida; grandchildren, Miranda Pax of Charlottesville, Virginia, James Griffin, Claire Moore of Williamsburg and Vonnie Keyser of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Hunter and Savannah Keyser, Elliot Clyde Pax McDonald and Felix Andrew Moore. Her life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved to grow and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Hampton Memorial Gardens Chapel, Hampton.
