Margaret Elinor Delaney, 96, cruised the world with friends

Margaret Elinor Delaney, 96, wife of the late retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. John A. Delaney, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, at Marian Manor Assisted Living Facility. A native of Worcester, Massachusetts, Margaret was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Margaret McIntyre.

Margaret and John were married at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Worcester, Massachusetts. They were stationed with the U.S. Navy in Monterey, California; Honolulu, Hawaii; San Diego, California; Yokosuka, Japan; and Virginia Beach, where they finally settled in 1964. After retirement, Margaret and John toured Europe and cruised the world with friends.

Her son, Stephen Delaney, preceded Margaret in death. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Delaney Shaver, and son-in-law, Scott, of Misawa, Japan; grandchildren, Joseph Shaver of Williamsburg and Katherin Carter, and her husband, Stephen, of Newport News; daughter-in-law, Judy Delaney; grandchildren, Kelly and Kevin Delaney, and his wife, Kerri; and great-grandchildren, Kyle, Aidan, Ryan, Alyssa, Lauren, Jordan and Lexi of Carmel and Indianapolis, Indiana.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. Margaret will be laid to rest alongside her husband John in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
