
On Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, Clarence Otis “Cookie” Lyons, 70, entered his eternal rest. He was born July 3, 1948, Tarboro, North Carolina, to the late Allie Lyons and Jack Tiery.
Cookie graduated from Carver High School and began working at Riverside Hospital. He would later be employed with Newport News Shipbuilding where he would remain for the next 35 years before retiring.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Allie Lyons.
He leaves to cherish his memory four daughters, Hope Lyons London (Thurman), Charonia Lyons Meekins, Monica Lyons Bloodsaw (Maurice) and Rovicka Sutton, all of Newport News; three sisters, Mary Ellen Richardson (James) and Minnie Lyons Coles, both of Newport News, and Wanda Lyons of Hampton; brother, James “Lo” Lyons of Newport News; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, Jan. 26, at Cornerstone Worship Center International, Hampton. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Viewing will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
