Ms. Gleniece Shirelle Linzy, 54, passed away in the home of her daughter Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019. She was the most entertaining and hilariously funny mother, sister, auntie, nana, great-nana, cousin and friend.
Ms. Gleniece Shirelle Linzy was born Jan. 2, 1965, in Newport News. She was funny, witty, smart and very protective of those she loved. She enjoyed family gatherings, kickball and a variation of crossword puzzles. She was known for her spades playing, trash talking and being the life of the party!
Ms. Gleniece Shirelle Linzy was a graduate of ECPI University, where she studied business management and New Horizon Vocational School, where she received her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification; she had been a practicing CNA for a number of years. Throughout her career she worked at Porter’s, Independent, Associates and North End Cab Companies as a dispatcher. She also worked at Caring & Sharing and Heart & Soul as a caregiver. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and enjoyed seafood and soul food — especially from Pearlie’s Restaurant.
Gleniece was quick to pull out her phone to record or photograph events and spoke with her emotions though her “Cat-eyes,” as some affectionately called her, or through her smile that radiated across her face when she looked at her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Seth & Olivia Linzy; mother, Christoria Linzy; brother, Shawn Linzy; and niece, KeAnn Linzy.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Libra S. Linzy of Newport News; two sons, Thomas Linzy (Angel) of Hampton and Tony Williams Jr. of Newport News; six grandkids, Taniesha and Shirelle Linzy, India Waddler, Diondre Linzy-Watkins, Rasheed Burton and Thomas Linzy Jr.; two great-grandkids, Isiah Singleton and Amor Owens; four brothers, Marvincent, Kerry, Dana and Randy (Brinklyn); two sisters, Twona and Tandy, all of Newport News; three aunts, Della Fox of Nashville, North Carolina, Linda Linzy of Newport News and Mildred Linzy of Lanham, Maryland; one uncle, CoMiller Cooper (Violene) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; great-aunt, Bertha Linzy of Washington, D.C.; best friend and special cousin, Regina Barrett; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, at Providence Baptist Church, Newport News. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Viewing will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
