Carl D. Shelton Jr., 49, passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, surrounded by family and loved ones. Carl was a Virginia Beach native.
Carl loved the water and worked for years as a commercial fisherman, and this love extended to saltwater and freshwater sport fishing as well. Aside from the fishing industry, Carl also worked in the construction industry in the Tidewater area. Carl was a friend to everyone with his wonderful sense of humor, outgoing personality and playfulness. Though he did not complete high school, in May 2015, Carl decided to and was successful in earning his GED, proving that it’s never too late to learn and expand one’s education.
Carl was preceded in death by his father Carl D. Shelton Sr. He is survived by his mother, Deborah A. Black, and her husband, Keene Black; brother, Ryan Cartino of Charleston, South Carolina; sisters, Tiffany Shelton and Laura Cartino; son, Taylor Shelton; and daughter, Alexis Shelton, all of Virginia Beach. Carl will be remembered by numerous friends with whom he shared many good times.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff of the ICU at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Home, Laskin Road. The family will gather following the service at 4 p.m. at 4864 S. Oliver Drive, Virginia Beach.
