Alonzo Mort Jr., 81, of Virginia Beach, went to be with his heavenly father Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018.
Born in Frederick, Maryland, he was the youngest child of the late Alonzo and Jesslyn Mort. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps before transferring to the U.S. Army, where he served two tours in the Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. military after 21 years of honest and faithful service.
Left to cherish his memory and forever hold him in their hearts are his wife of 41 years, Pamela S. Mort; daughters, Joy R. Jones, and her husband, Garnet, of Moyock, North Carolina, and Melissa A. Kelley, and her husband, Dale, of Virginia Beach; and especially, his beloved grandchildren, Chandler W. Mort and Rhiannon I. Kelley, both of Virginia Beach; and his cherished cat, Hunter.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Private burial with full military honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
