Peter G. Dunthorn, 62, a native of Virginia Beach, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Byron J. Dunthorn; and brother, Bruce Dunthorn.
He is survived by his mother, Patricia T. Dunthorn; sister, Sally English; brother, Patrick Dunthorn (Denise); nieces, Leah Malbon (Stefan), Anna English and Taylor Dunthorn; nephew, Collin Dunthorn; and dear, devoted friend, Pat Finley, who also served as his medical transport driver.
Peter spent many years as a charter boat captain before being employed by the Association of the Maryland Pilots. He was an excellent woodworker, gardener, bird enthusiast and enjoyed life on the water. Peter will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and kind heart. With Peter, you knew you had a friend.
His family would like to thank Dr. Ryan, Steve Winn, PA-C, the wonderful nurses of the VBGH Oncology Unit, and Heartland Hospice for taking excellent care of Peter.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 12, at 114 69th St., with the Rev. Kathleen Bobbitt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union Mission Ministries or the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.
