Frank Macaraeg Gabat, 82, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018, with his family by his side at home in Virginia Beach. He was born in 1935 to the late Gerardo Gabat and Isabela Macaraeg Gabat in Pangasinan, Philippines.
Frank left his parents and 10 brothers and sisters in the Philippines to join the U.S. Navy. There were numerous applications from Filipino men back then to join the U.S. Navy and only a few were selected to join. His brother Rico believed Frank was selected because Frank prayed to God multiple times everyday. He was a great provider for his wife, daughter and his family back home in the Philippines.
Frank is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma Rulloda Gabat; daughter and son-in-law, Arlene Gabat Blanco and Warren C. Blanco; two grandsons, Aidan and Justin Blanco; and Frank’s younger brother and sister-in-law, Rico M. Gabat and Caridad S. Gabat.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 10, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 11, at Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church, 3314 Sandra Lane, Virginia Beach.
