Sarah L. Johnson, 82, entered into eternal rest Sunday, March 25, 2018, at her home with her loving son by her side. Her life’s journey began Jan. 7, 1935, the daughter of the late Martha and Ernest Leach of Rowland, N.C.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She was a longtime member of St. John Baptist Church on Penniman Road. She was also a member of Lambda Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Mrs. Johnson retired from Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools after more than 30 years of dedicated service.
She leaves to cherish loving memories with her devoted son, Arthur “Art” Johnson Jr.; granddaughters, Kenyetta Dial and Aria K. Johnson; and other loving relatives and many caring friends.
Mrs. Johnson may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., The Ivy Beyond the Wall Ceremony will be given by her sorority. A funeral service, celebrating the life she lived, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 30, at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 109 Springfield Drive by 10 a.m. on Friday
