Susan V. Nicolay, 60, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Mary Immaculate Hospital surrounded by family and loved ones.
Susan was born and raised in Historic Hilton Village, Newport News. She worked a variety of jobs in her life before a back and shoulder injury rendered her unable to work.
She spoke fondly of her time working as a dental hygienist before serving in the U.S.Navy, later working as a pediatrician’s assistant in Florida, and most recently, bringing smiles to the dining patrons of Yorktown as a waitress.
She loved Yorktown more than anywhere in the world. She enjoyed walking down to the water from her small cottage to watch the boats pass by.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, George T. Insley in 1994; and brother, George T. Insley Jr. in 2012. She is survived by her mother, Barbara J. Insley; sister, Patricia Christopher; and two children, Melissa and Dylan Nicolay.
Her smile and laugh will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, her children request that memorial donations be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
