Stella Sawyer Harris, 94, adventurous cook who loved trying new recipes

Stella Sawyer Harris, 94, passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018.

Born in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John and Lydia Sawyer and the widow of Leroy W. Harris. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Carper.

Stella retired as a secretary from Deep Creek Elementary School after 16 years. She was a member of Deep Creek United Methodist Church and was involved in United Methodist Women. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, crafts and trying new recipes.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Ronald Harris and his wife, Janice; daughter, Sandra Pastian, and her husband, Robert; grandchildren, Cynthia Nelson, and her husband, Shawn, Christopher Harris, Tracy Pastian, and her husband, Jon Solomon, and Sara Pastian, and her fiancé, Jason Clark; and great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Cooper Nelson, Ron Christopher Harris and Lizzie and Abby Solomon. She truly loved her family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Dominion Village, Interim Hospice and caretakers, Susie Parker and Betty Ann Taylor.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 16, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel. A funeral service will follow visitation at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Food Pantry of Deep Creek United Methodist Church.
